INDUSTRY Mini-LP, 1983

The band "Industry", based in New York, was formed in the late '70s by Brian Unger and Mercury Caronia. They produced experimental electronic music and were able to release two EP's: "Logging Time" in 1980 under Metro Records USA, and "Turning to Light" in 1981 under Mannequin Records USA. However, it was only when Jon Carin and Rudy Perrone joined, that the band tuned up in unison for a more pop-oriented sound. The "shift" paid off well as they were given a break in 1983 when they signed a major record deal with Capitol Records. A self-titled mini-LP was released which included what would be their first and only hit single "State of the Nation". It had a catchy dance beat, with lyrics that echo protests about war, and supported by a music video shot onboard a military aircraft carrier. The single enjoyed worldwide commercial success which paved the way for the release of their full length LP, "Stranger to Stranger" in 1984. The singles that followed weren't able to match the success of their debut single. The group parted ways and became involved in other projects.
In July 1985, Jon Carin resurfaced as the keyboardist for Bryan Ferry at Live Aid. He then became a session musician for different artists such as Pete Townsend, Roger Daltrey, Roger Waters, Bryan Ferry, The Psychedelic Furs, and Pink Floyd. He was credited as co-writer to Pink Floyd's "Learning to Fly".

Since I’m starting this blog to share some stuffs with you all, I've decided to post this ultra-rare mini-LP of Industry. If you’re familiar with the album version of Still of the Night, then the one here is the 1983 original version mixed by the great Bob Clearmountain. This mix is more synth-pop than the rockier album version mixed by Bob Schaper. Then while you're downloading, check out the music videos of "State of the Nation"(version 1 uploaded by andy01978 & version 2 uploaded by sunserious) and "Still of the Night"(which is the album version, uploaded by aliiema) from YouTube. ENJOY!

Note: Some of the information researched from Wikipedia and Michael Sutton's review at All Music Guide.
